Workshop: Students! Practice speaking English! How to practice speaking English outside of the classroom

November 22-23, 2022 - While English lessons with a knowledgeable and well-qualified teacher can be invaluable, people hardly become perfectly fluent in a language without getting around to practicing it outside of the classroom. To support students in practicing English, TDTU INSPiRE Library cooperated with the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi through the English Language Fellows program to host the workshop “Students! Practice speaking English! How to practice speaking English outside of the classroom” at Meeting Hall 10F with the participation of the representative of the U.S. Consulate General HCMC and more than 400 students.

Ms. Carla Bailey - the workshop speaker, who was a member of the English Language Fellows program gave students a lot of insight into how English language was used in everyday speech and also shared her own experience during the time she taught people English in many countries and helped them improve their English speaking skills and confidence. A bunch of useful websites, online games, mobile apps and English newspapers were recommended to students.

Golden Bell Challenge minigame after Carla's session that continued stirring up the atmosphere at the hall while students challenged themselves with the general and fun facts and knowledge in the questions. The top winners were awarded with 20 special gifts from Miss Hoa IELTS and INSPiRE Library.

Miss Hoa IELTS also provided students with more chances to get their gifts and English course scholarships in the Lucky Draw Game.

In the workshop, the Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Consulate General HCMC - Mr. Anthony Jones made a remark to congratulate the successful cooperation between TDTU INSPiRE Library and U.S. diplomatic establishments in Vietnam to support English language learning and teaching skills for TDTU students and teachers through such programs provided by the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi.

The English Language Program places highly qualified U.S.-citizen educators in the field of TESOL on projects funded by the U.S. Department of State to assist U.S. Embassies in delivering English language programs and supporting public diplomacy and mutual understanding through cultural exchange.
