On October 22, 2026, INSPiRE Library, in collaboration with representatives of Clarivate Vietnam, organized the workshop “Effective Use of the Web of Science Database”, featuring Ms. Dju-Lyn Chng, Strategic Customer Success Consultant and Regional Solution Consultant at Clarivate, Singapore. The workshop provided practical knowledge and guidance on using the Web of Science database, helping enhance participants’ ability to access, evaluate, and utilize scholarly information for research, teaching, and learning at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU).

During the workshop, Ms. Dju-Lyn Chng provided an overview of Web of Science and guided participants through its key functions, including searching and filtering scholarly literature, tracking citations, and assessing academic impact. The program also covered the creation and management of individual researcher profiles, journal evaluation, and the selection of appropriate publication outlets. These topics helped participants gain a better understanding of how academic data can serve as an essential resource throughout the research process, from developing research ideas and conducting literature reviews to identifying suitable publication opportunities.

The workshop also highlighted the role of Web of Science in improving research quality and strengthening scholarly rigor. By exploring citation data, retrieving reliable sources, and examining previously published research, researchers can better assess the originality of their work, position their research within the broader academic landscape, and identify potential gaps in their literature reviews. In this way, Web of Science goes beyond information retrieval, supporting responsible research practices, respect for intellectual property rights, and a strong commitment to academic integrity.

Notably, Web of Science is also actively used by students, helping foster the habit of accessing and using credible scholarly sources from the early stages of their academic journey. Equipped with appropriate skills in searching, evaluating, and citing academic literature, students are better prepared to complete academic assignments, essays, and graduation theses, while gradually developing their engagement in scientific research. These skills also provide an important foundation for independent research, critical thinking, and adherence to academic standards.

At TDTU, Web of Science is one of the scholarly information resources that the University has invested in and maintained for many years. Organizing specialized training activities plays an important role in translating this investment into practical value, ensuring that faculty members and students can effectively access and utilize the database for their academic and professional activities.
