On October 24, 2024, the Summary and Award Ceremony of the 2024 Reading Culture Ambassador Contest took place at the Phu Tho Provincial Conference Center. The organizing committee presented 4 Outstanding Reading Culture Ambassador titles, 8 First Prizes, 16 Second Prizes, 32 Third Prizes, 64 Encouragement Prizes, and 16 Special Awards to participating individuals and groups. Among the winners, Nghiem Van Tien, a student from Class 23030201, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), proudly secured a spot in the Top 16 Encouragement Prizes in the student category.
The Reading Culture Ambassador Contest is a significant initiative aligned with Decision No. 329/QD-TTg (March 15, 2017) by the Prime Minister, approving the project "Developing Reading Culture in the Community until 2020, with an Orientation to 2030." The 2024 contest was launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in April 2024 for students nationwide. TDTU entered three works into the final round. Notably, Nghiem Van Tien’s submission, which discussed the book "The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down," won an individual award. Competing through three rounds — Preliminary, Semi-final (at various institutions and local levels), and the Final (organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism) — against nearly 2 million students from over 9,200 educational institutions and 517 final-round entries, Nghiem Van Tien's achievement in the Top 16 is commendable. His success serves as an inspiration for TDTU students to foster a love for reading and paves the way for future "Reading Culture Ambassadors" in upcoming competitions.
According to Ms. Trinh Thi Thuy, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, this year’s contest saw the highest number of submissions ever. After five years, it is evident that young people increasingly recognize the importance of reading culture. The competition motivates each participant to become a passionate reading ambassador, spreading their love for books within their institutions and communities. Through this, every book moves beyond the shelf to deliver positive values, shaping meaningful lives for young people.
