On November 21, 2024, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) hosted the inaugural International Competition on Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Research and Design (UAV Competition 2024). This marks the first international competition of its kind held in Vietnam in this field.
The competition attracted nine teams from co-hosting institutions, led and initiated by TDTU. Participating universities included Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, the Vietnam Aviation Academy, and top universities from the Czech Republic, such as Ostrava Technical University and Tomas Bata University.
The competition took place on November 21-22, 2024, at Ton Duc Thang University. The theme of the first edition, agreed upon by the organizing members, was "Navigate and Drop." The objective was to develop UAV systems capable of accurately dropping or launching balls onto ground targets. There were five targets: four drop targets and one goal target, each with different diameters. UAVs had to release or shoot balls from a specified altitude (over 5 meters above the arena floor) with the highest possible precision. This theme was inspired by the concept of using UAVs to transport goods and deliver aid to isolated areas affected by natural disasters, fires, and other emergencies.
This international scientific competition, the first of its kind in Vietnam, was open to students, trainees, and researchers from universities both domestically and internationally.
