In an era of deepening global integration, the ability to understand and appreciate cultural diversity has become an essential part of every learner’s journey. Engaging with and conversing with international friends not only broadens students’ global perspectives but also reminds us of the shared values of education—listening, understanding, and growing through differences. With that vision, the INSPiRE Library organized INSPiRE Meetup #1 to create an open academic space where students could connect through authentic stories, diverse viewpoints, and meaningful intercultural experiences.
INSPiRE Meetup #1, themed “Bridging Cultures – A Cross-Cultural Reflection”, took place on the evening of November 12, 2025, at the Library’s Outdoor Lounge on the 5th floor. This event marks the beginning of a series of recurring academic and multicultural exchange activities, and also the reopening of the Library’s outdoor interaction space.
The program was designed to provide students with an international interaction environment, helping them practice English communication skills, expand global thinking, and strengthen their understanding of cultural diversity. Beyond language practice, the event highlighted the shared values across educational systems, particularly the role of teachers—the guides who nurture independent thinking and personal growth, regardless of nationality or cultural background.
The guest speaker for the event was Mr. Thomas C. Elixhauser, a graduate student from Johannes Kepler Universität Linz (Austria). He is enrolled in the international Master’s program in Comparative Social Policy and Welfare, jointly offered by Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria) and Tampere University (Finland). With his experience studying in various European educational environments and living in Vietnam, Mr. Thomas brought students a broad and insightful perspective on culture, education, and the image of educators across different societies.
In his opening sharing, Mr. Thomas introduced key features of Austrian and European culture, emphasizing the liberal spirit and encouragement of independent and creative thinking in Western education. Reflecting on his experience in Vietnam, he noted that the environment at TDTU had offered him warmth, openness, and a strong sense of effort among students. He also expressed deep appreciation for Vietnamese teachers, whom he described as dedicated, approachable, and inspiring through their professionalism and commitment.
Students actively participated in the discussion, raising questions about cultural differences, learning styles, and challenges in adapting to international environments. The conversation unfolded in an engaging and open atmosphere. Many students shared that the event provided a valuable opportunity to practice English reflexes and gain a more concrete understanding of cultural diversity through real-life stories. Some were particularly impressed by the idea that, despite differences in teaching styles, educators across cultures share the same mission: to inspire and guide learners toward growth.
INSPiRE Meetup #1 offered students an academic experience that was both relaxed and meaningful, aligning with the Library’s goal of creating an internationalized learning environment within its campus spaces. This initiative reflects the Library’s ongoing direction to expand academic activities that promote integration, encouraging students to broaden their worldview and engage with global cultures.
The program concluded in a warm and inspiring atmosphere. The INSPiRE Library hopes that INSPiRE Meetup will continue as a regular series, offering students opportunities to engage with multicultural perspectives, develop international competencies, and nurture an open academic mindset—aligned with the integration and development strategy of Ton Duc Thang University.
