Seminar "Smart Library 4.0: Technology - Data – Human”
On October 25, 2018, Ton Duc Thang Library (TDTU INSPiRE Library) cooperated with the Northern Academic Library Association (NALA) and the Library Information Center of Hanoi National University (LIC) organized a seminar named "Smart Library 4.0: Technology - Data - Human". 150 participants attended the seminar with 5 presentations.
Along with the 4.0 technology revolution, the library's operations have also taken a great step towards applying technology to management, operation and exploitation of digital resources. The concept of intelligent library, according to Mr. Nguyen Hoang Son, Vice President of Vietnam Library Association, Director of Library Information Center of Hanoi National University, was formed in the early 90s with the application of computers to library administrations such as library portal, keyword search, etc. Over nearly 30 years of continuous development, Vietnam Academic Library system is now starting its fourth generation with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things, Big Data, ...
Concerning the application of technology in the library sector, foreign experts from Ex Libris Group (Israel) presented two lectures: New library intelligent ecosystem for university libraries-development strategy and research result management service; and Remote Library Administration and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga, Director of the National Library of Vietnam with the presentation Artificial Intelligence and the potential for application in library activities introduced the listeners to the outstanding achievements of 4.0 technology in the library sector. It also showed the availability of technology for a new generation of smart libraries. A presentation The course resource management system at Ton Duc Thang University Library provided a practical insight into the application of digital libraries in direct support to teaching activities at TDTU. With this system, it is very convenient for lecturers and students to retrieve suitable materials for each subject, the Library is also more active in serving the readers needs accurately and timely.
In the preliminary report, Mr. Nguyen Huy Chuong (PhD), Chairman of Northern Academic Library Association, emphasized: Early adaptation is one of the top requirements of library staff in the new stage. Thus, in parallel with the investment of intelligent management systems and the exploitation of digital resources in a methodical manner, the training of human beings in the library sector plays an important role in determining the success of the whole system.
The seminar took place on the same day as the visit and experience exchange program with TDTU Library.
